Our methodology is based on providing all farmers the opportunity to develop those four key capacities & resources. Farmers who are willing to invest in their capabilities & resources can start small, and gradually grow beyond self-subsistence towards ‘farming as a business’. Simply said, if you have a small piece of land, you can take small steps to turn your piece of land into a MoneyGarden™.
A MoneyGarden™ is an integrated approach in agribusiness and agro forestry to convert a household with land in a sustainable and profitable farm. Two other main pillars within are (safe) water for irrigation and human consumption and renewable energy to create a sustainable household. The agricultural components of the MoneyGarden™ can vary according to location but are focused on high value cash crops combined with livestock, commercially bearing trees and staple ‘kitchen garden’ crops to ensure income, food security and diversity. In other words, it generates food on the table and money in the pocket and contributes to the conservation of our environment.
A farmer that likes to turn his piece of land into a MoneyGarden™ needs to self-develop his capacities & resources. FreeKenya Foundation has four key components within the MoneyGarden™ Concept which together develop well working value chains to achieve its mission and ambition, being;
- Access to Markets
- Access to Finance
- Access to AgriBusiness skills
- Access to High Quality Inputs & Equipment
