At the level of our intervention, the farmer desires both basic and proper farming expertise (advise) on what produce to grow and at what time to grow in relation to the markets demand and agricultural advise based on the extension field services with proper follow up to see the work successful and profitable. Beside that substantive farmers in rural areas are in need of reliable and clean and accessible collection points. Furthermore, they are in need of understanding market mechanism and having the right prices on local market level.
The Government of Kenya lack of clear policies and regulations for products coming from local markets, where NGO’s offer mobile information services, but only for organized and selected groups. Concerning the local markets business men (middle man) are present but taking advantage of their situation.
Via Hosting partners FreeKenya creates collection points to increase volumes of crops coming from small farmers, to provide markets outside their local community. FreeKenya initiates and involves small farmers with agreements towards markets and establish sustainable partnerships between farmers and strategic markets for sales and export.
Through the Resource Center, FreeKenya promotes and creates market connectivity services in the development of the value chains. The MoneyGardenTM Concept is market demand driven and leads to professional farmers getting involved into contract farming after performing well in the integrated training, and in the savings and lending program. Furthermore, FreeKenya initiates market research to identify (new) commercial crops and other market demands; Multi-stakeholder meetings at our resource centers (symposia).
